What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection from Eli Lilly that was FDA-approved in May 2022 to treat type 2 diabetes. It is the first medication in a new class that activates two hormones (GIP and GLP-1), which in clinical trials produced stronger blood sugar and weight effects than older GLP-1-only drugs like Ozempic. Mounjaro uses the same active ingredient (tirzepatide) as Zepbound, which is the version approved for weight loss. Mounjaro is FDA-approved only for type 2 diabetes in adults.
